M3lleo: The Charlotte Rapper Choosing Integrity Over Industry Illusions

From the North Carolina streets to the soul of the booth…

“M3lleo is growth. He’s lessons. He’s somebody who been through storms and didn’t fold.” This is how the independent artist De’Shone Rammell Brown, better known as M3lleo, describes his journey as he navigates the complexities of the modern music industry.

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, M3lleo is not just another independent artist chasing viral moments or streams. He has emerged as a storyteller shaped by the heavy pressures of his environment, a deep-rooted faith, and a refusal to compromise his values for a quick climb to the top.

In our next exclusive interview for perlarico.com, meet the talented rapper M3lleo, whom he opens up about darkness, near danger moments, his refusal to sell his soul for fame and how he stands out by creating music through which he speaks his truth—a truth built through trials that once made him question everything.

1. Your music feels very personal. Who is M3lleo beyond the microphone?

M3lleo: M3lleo is growth. He’s lessons. He’s somebody who been through storms and didn’t fold. I’m a father first, a man of God, and a student of life. Music just happens to be the way I speak my truth. People hear confidence, but that confidence was built through trials. I done had moments where I questioned everything. But every time I almost lost myself, God pulled me back.

2. What was the biggest turn point in your life?

M3lleo: I almost got robbed while trying to make quick cash in the streets. Yeah… that was a turning point for me. I was moving wrong, doing things I had no business doing just to get fast money. One night at a gas station, I felt the energy shift. I saw how quick my life could’ve changed. I made it out safe, but I knew that was God giving me a warning shot. After that, I told myself: Stay down. Stay prayed up. Build it the right way.

M3lleo’s record, “No Deal” serves as a manifesto for his career, highlighting his stance against ‘selling his soul.’ He acknowledges that when numbers are low and recognition is scarce, the temptation to compromise is at its highest. However, he maintains a firm belief that success without peace isn’t success.

3. How difficult it is to break into the industry?

M3lleo: It’s very hard. When you don’t get recognition, when numbers low, when people overlook you—that’s when temptation creeps in. You start thinking, “Should I switch up? Should I compromise?” But I’d rather grind slow and keep my soul clean than shine fast and lose myself. Success without peace ain’t success to me.

4. Where does the theme of light vs. darkness and love vs. demons in your work comes from?

M3lleo: Life. We all fighting something. Some people fight depression. Some fight ego. Some fight temptation. My album concepts reflect that internal war. “Love & Demons” wasn’t just a title—it’s reality. I’ve loved wrong and trusted wrong. I’ve seen how emotions can blind you but I also learned every demon teaches you something about yourself.

The rapper’s integrity is deeply linked to his experience as a parent. Fatherhood shifted his perspective, moving him to pray and ‘hustle different.’ His ultimate goal is for his daughter to witness his resilience, valuing that legacy more than any industry award.

5. How has fatherhood changed you?

M3lleo: Fatherhood matured me instantly. When you look at your child, you realize it ain’t just about you no more. I want my daughter to see resilience. I want her to say, “My dad never quit.” That’s bigger than any plaque or chain.

6. What’s the biggest lesson from your journey so far?

M3lleo: Separation is elevation. Sometimes you gotta separate from environments, habits, even people you love just to grow. Not out of hate, but out of purpose. Darkness only wins when you entertain it.

M3lleo continues to build his career on a foundation of faith, believing that a delay is not a denial. “God don’t rush greatness” he added.

7. What would you tell other independent artists who are trying to weather the storm in difficult situations throughout their career?

M3lleo: Don’t quit five minutes before your breakthrough. Storms don’t last forever but decisions do. Make the right ones. Stay prayed up. Stay solid. And don’t let temporary pressure make permanent mistakes.

Thank you M3lleo, for sharing your story and proving words of wisdom to many independent artists choosing integrity over the illusion of fame and finding peace, validation and appreciation in yourself with your own art.
