Boyce Hamlet receives recognition from FBI-LEEDA for his outstanding leadership

Outstanding special agent…

The primary objective of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is to have agents with great leadership and through FBI-LEEDA, a non-profit corporation, it offers training programs for law enforcement personnel.

Its mission promotes the art and sciences of police leadership as well as the exchange of information to improve practices through training, education and networking among police professionals in the United States.

In our next interview for perlarico.com we had the opportunity to speak with Boyce Hamlet, Arkansas’ resident, to tells us about his great achievement as an agent by receiving the FBI-LEEDA recognition.

1. How did your career as an agent begin?
Hamlet: My law enforcement career began as a dispatcher at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

2. What has been one of your greatest achievements as an agent?
Hamlet: My greatest achievement as a law enforcement officer has been being able to strike a good work life balance. I’ve been very fortunate over the years to work for leaders and organizations that allowed me to put my family first.

In his career as special agent Boyce Hamlet worked in different areas which led him to obtain better training, such as Arkansas Attorney General’s Office like a Criminal Investigator, as well as Arkansas State Drug Director as Supervision of 19 state Drug Task Forces, among other areas.

3. You have worked in the field of drug prevention and criminal investigation, how important has it been in your career?
Hamlet: I really enjoyed my time as the state drug director. It gave me the opportunity to work for a short time in Governor Sanders administration, which I consider a blessing. The bold and transformative changes she made in a short period of time was really remarkable. I am a better police officer and leader because I got to work for her.

4. You were a leader in the investigation of important cases of public corruption. What can you tell us about it?
Hamlet: The elected prosecutor at the time was Cody Hyland and he brought me on when he was elected. It was his first public office and he placed an emphasis on public corruption.

Hamlet reiterates, “I was fortunate to work on all types of abuse of public trust cases including some voter fraud cases”.

5. You received the FBI-LEEDA award, how did you come to such an important recognition?
Hamlet: The FBI LEEDA award was a long and difficult process. I am grateful to the leaders I worked for who invested in me and allowed me to work through the process. Larry Walther and Attorney General Tim Griffin are great leaders and have never hesitated to invest in their people.

6. Who do you dedicate your success to?
Hamlet: Law enforcement mentors are difficult to come by unfortunately. I was really blessed to have a state trooper named Leonard Hogg take me on a ride along when I was in college and it completely changed the trajectory of my life.

“He passed away last year but I will always be grateful to him for his friendship and mentioning”.

7. What’s next for you in your career?
Hamlet: I have no idea it’s all in God’s hands. I am grateful for where I am now. I work with great people.

8. Please share a learning message to future agents who are looking forward to work in the same fields that you have.
Hamlet: If you’re just getting started in this career just know it’s a way of life, not a job. A lot of people talk about servant leadership but they have never read a book or listened to a podcast about it. If you want a return on your investment in leadership there is no better was to lead than as a servant.

“If you are ever given the privilege of leading an organization you have to love your people, even the ones you don’t like”.
